Deion Sanders reflects on legacy of Miss Peggy to Colorado: 'We're trying to get Peggy to THE game'
Deion Sanders knows the support that Colorado superfan Miss Peggy has provided since he arrived in Boulder has been invaluable. He had a challenging task ahead of him when he took over a Buffaloes team in 2023 that won only one game the year prior.
But Miss Peggy, whose full name is Peggy Coppom and has been a supporter of Colorado athletics for more than eight decades, inspired him and his players. She has rarely missed a game since 1939 and been a season ticket holder since 1966, witnessing many ups and downs for the program.
In all of that time, she has never wavered in her fandom. Now with Colorado at 7-2 and in control of its own destination in regards to making the Big 12 Championship game, Sanders explained how she is still motivating them.
“Miss Peggy in her own tremendous, loving way, she gives all of us hope,” he said. “She gives all of us that unspeakable joy. That love. That respect. You know how many decades we are apart but we still found one another? I thank God for that. Just the little things she whispers. That’s the remembrance of certain little things that she may say. Her asking me about my mother.
“…Because Peggy is just, she is like that, man. She gives me so much energy every darn time I see her. You guys thought I was joking. I was really dedicated to getting Peggy to a bowl game. Now we’re trying to get Peggy to THE game. It was a bowl game. Now it’s THE game.”

Miss Peggy is set to turn 100 years old on Nov. 19, and Colorado has already secured her a bowl game as a birthday gift. However, the Buffaloes are in contention to do more than just that, as they can punch their ticket to the College Football Playoff with a Big 12 Championship.
Colorado is currently in second place in the conference standings with three games remaining. All of those games come against teams with two league wins or fewer.
The Buffaloes next play Utah at noon ET on Saturday in Boulder. Look for Miss Peggy to be there in the crowd as always cheering them on.
