How SHOULD We Talk About Deion Sanders, Colorado Buffs Football? | Is It REALLY All Good or All Bad?

No one, including Deion Sanders, makes any buts about Shedeur Sanders’ future in the NFL. However, the father isn’t going to compare the son to anyone else in the league considering how unique all his players, including him, are to him.

During Colorado’s spring press conference, Sanders answered a question about a potential comparison for Shedeur ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. He put a pin in that topic right then and there with his responses. He did so since it’s not something he does because he wants each of their players, including his kids, to be the first of their kind rather than like anyone else that has come before.

“I don’t do that,” Sanders said. “I don’t compare my kids, nobody’s kids to another kid. I want them to be the first of somebody, not the second of somebody.”

Again, that goes for more than just his children on the roster with Shedeur Sanders or Shilo Sanders. Coach Prime feels that way about other Buffaloes with how distinct they all are as players and individuals.

“I don’t do that. I don’t comp them to nobody,” said Sanders. “Ain’t another Travis (Hunter) out there, ain’t another Shedeur out there. Ain’t another Shilo, Jimmy (Horn Jr.), or LaJohntay (Wester). I mean, shoot.”

Sanders is expected to be a high selection in next year’s draft with what he did after his first season in Boulder. He completed 69.3% of his passes for 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns, and only three interceptions. It was a long year for him, though, as he took 52 sacks over the course of their year that finished with a 4-8 record.

Still, assuming all goes well this fall and he produces, many will view Shedeur as a top prospect next spring. He’d be following in the Hall of Fame footsteps of his father after he went fifth overall in 1989.

If nothing else, everything about Colorado’s program under Sanders looks to be one of one. That includes their players, which is why he’s leaving the comparisons and all that junk for those who want to do it.

The NFL does that foolishness. I don’t even know if that even sticks. They always try to do that to pique your interest,” said Sanders. “I don’t believe in that.”

Sanders odds to be No. 1 overall pick in 2025 NFL Draft plummet after single tweet

Following a tweet from Shedeur Sanders, his odds to go No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft fell last week

Sanders called out defensive back transfer Xavier Smith, who left prior to the 2023 campaign. It came on the heels of a story at The Athletic on the departed Colorado players from last offseason

Since the tweet came off pretty negative in the eyes of social media, Sanders’ odds of +100 to go No. 1 overall dropped to +300, per DraftKings.

Still, Sanders has the shortest odds to go in the top spot in the draft. He remains ahead of other quarterbacks such as Carson Beck (Georgia) and Quinn Ewers (Texas).
