Deion Sanders call himself best coach in college football, offers high praise for Nick Saban
As Colorado has gotten off to a 3-0 start to the season and encouraged legitimate mania around coach Deion Sanders, some of his stars on the team and the program as a whole, the level of awareness is only growing.
Sanders continued to build the profile of the program by joining CBS’ 60 Minutes on Sunday night.
One of the questions Sanders faced from 60 Minutes was who the best coach in college football is. You can probably guess Sanders’ answer.
“Let me see a mirror, so I can look at it,” he said. “You think I’m going to sit up here and tell you somebody else? You think that’s the way I operate? That somebody else got that on me?”
Clearly not.
Sanders’ persona is a way of life at this point. It’s how he operates his program, why it’s successful and why it must continue all in one fell swoop. That’s not to say that Sanders is flying blind, though.
In fact, there’s one coach that Sanders has been able to tap for advice every time he steps on the set of an Aflac commercial.
“I’ll tell you this: I love and I adore and I respect and every time I do a commercial with coach (Nick) Saban it’s a gift,” Sanders said. “Just sitting in his presence and hearing him and throwing something else out there so I can hear his viewpoint on it, because he’s forgotten more things than I may ever accomplish. So I’m a student looking up to this wonderful teacher saying just throw me a crumb of what you know.”

Deion Sanders’ Heisman Trophy approach
It’s no secret at this point that Sanders has some bona-fide stars on his squad, from his quarterback and son Shedeur Sanders to two-way star Travis Hunter.
And Sanders’ approach to both of their situations has been a little unique in the sport. While most coaches downplay individual success to focus on the team, Sanders does both.
From Day 1 this season he’s been pushing the narrative that he has three Heisman Trophy candidates on his team (running back Dylan Edwards being the third). He explained why on 60 Minutes.
“(I’m) a coach that loves his kids. A coach that understands that’s what those kids desire,” Sanders said. “And I’m supposed to do that. That’s what we told them when they were coming and choosing to play for us. My kids that play for me, they didn’t choose a university. They chose me. That’s a difference.”
