Deion Sanders reveals Shedeur, Travis Hunter given historic insurance policies to play in Alamo Bowl
When Colorado faces BYU in the Alamo Bowl, there will be a little more intrigue to the game than your average bowl game. There appear to be no opt-outs for the game on the Colorado side, something head coach Deion Sanders appears to be proud of. Now, Coach Prime is making sure those players and their future and insured if something were to happen in San Antonio.
“It was his idea we should get disability insurance for our athletes for this game to ensure that they played and if there was some kind of injury that they would be well taken care of,” Colorado AD Rick George said of Sanders. “So, we worked together on that. We’re excited about it, we think it’s great that all our players are playing in the game. That’s what all bowl games should be like.”
Colorado does have a handful of draftable prospects but two stand out at the top. Cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders project to be taken well inside the top 10 from Green Bay in April. Those two are certainly taking a major risk by participating in a game that does not affect the Buffaloes’ 2024 season.
Hunter and Sanders, specifically, have historic policies covering them for the game according to their head coach. No specific number was given but it’s safe to say the duo will be taken care of if the worst were to happen and a big injury occurs.
“We have a multitude of players that are draftable, that they received a draft grade,” Deion Sanders said. “They had visibility (insurance) all season long, we want to make insure that if something were to happen, they would cover it.

“We happen to have two players that are probably going to be the first two picks of the NFL Draft. We all know who those two are and they have received, I think, the highest number of coverage that has ever been covered in college football. It far exceeds anyone that has ever played this game of college football.”
Nobody involved is hoping that the insurance policy winds up being a necessity. Getting through the game completely healthy is the main goal while also putting on a Colorado uniform once more. Shedeur Sanders and Hunter got to spend just two years doing so.
A nice touch from George and the CU administration to make sure two of the sport’s top players get to finish out their college careers on the field.
