Deion Sanders reveals Heisman pick between Travis Hunter, son Shedeur
The Heisman Trophy will be awarded to the best player in college football in just over a month’s time, and the field of potential finalists narrows every week.
Two names who are still in the mix heading into Week 12 are on the same team — Colorado‘s Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders. Their head coach, Deion Sanders, joined Big Nook Kickoff ahead of the Buffs’ game against Texas Tech and was asked who he’d choose if he had a vote. He didn’t hesitate in his answer.
“Travis gets my vote,” Coach Prime said. “Travis is the best player in college football, truly. Shedeur is that guy, he’s the catalyst. He makes everything go and he enables Travis to be Travis, but Travis Hunter is doing something we’ve never seen before.”
Following the 34-23 victory over Cincinnati his last time out, Hunter was not only named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week but was also awarded Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors as well. He is the first player to earn both titles in the same week — another feather in the cap of Hunter as he continues his path to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist.
On the offensive end, Hunter caught nine passes for 153 yards and a pair of touchdowns while defensively logging four pass breakups and a pair of tackles. Coach Prime said after the game that he expects this sort of performance from Hunter on a weekly basis — which could prove troublesome to the Red Raiders on Saturday.

On the season, Hunter has compiled 60 catches for 757 yards, eight touchdowns (all career highs), 21 total tackles, one tackle for loss, two interceptions, seven pass deflections and one forced fumble.
Meanwhile, Sanders completed 25 of his 30 passes for 323 yards and scored two touchdowns through the air and another on the ground against the Bearcats. That performance reflects the entire body of work he’s put together this season.
One of the most accurate passers in the country, Sanders has completed 73.3% (220 of 300) of his passes this season for a total of 2,591 yards, 21 touchdowns and six interceptions. He’s added three additional scores on the ground as well.
If one thing is for sure — the two are one of the most dynamic duos in the country. However, at the end of the day, it seems Coach Prime’s vote will be cast for Hunter to win the nation’s most presigious individual trophy.
