Deion Sanders says Colorado's receiving corps is 'ridiculous'
To nobody’s surprise, Deion Sanders is once again talking a big game about the upcoming season. This time, the 55-year-old Colorado head coach turned the focus toward his receiving corps.
“The receiving core is ridiculous. Ridiculous. I’m excited about them,” Sanders said.
Sanders is definitely on the optimistic side. The Buffaloes lost four receivers in the transfer portal this offseason, including the team’s top two receivers from the 2022 season: Montana Lemonious-Craig and Jordyn Tyson.
Clearly, Sanders isn’t concerned. And, in some ways, he shouldn’t be. Colorado made up for its deficits by adding four wide receivers in the portal, including USF standout Xavier Weaver. Despite the additions out wide, Sanders is more concerned with who is delivering the receivers the ball.
“There’s only two guys in this whole organization that gets the record, and their last name is Sanders. So, we got to make sure we take care of [Shedeur Sanders] back there with the ball. When we do that, he’s going to make the necessary read and the proper throws because he’s very accurate. He’s always been his whole darn life.”
Sanders would know. Shedeur is his son. Shedeur came with his father from Jackson State, where he played quarterback. In two years behind the steering wheel, Shedeur completed 616-of-901 passes for 6,983 yards and 70 touchdowns with just 14 interceptions, while adding 157 yards and nine rushing touchdowns.

Impressive statistics, but also a different level of competition. Nonetheless, Colorado faithful have bought in to the hype. The attendance at Colorado’s spring game was 47,277 fans, more than the last nine spring games combined.
Sanders believes with his roster and staff, great things will happen.
“It’s very rare that you have really good talent and a really good coaching staff and you don’t win,” Sanders said.
Only time will tell. Colorado will kick off its season on Sept. 2 against reigning National Championship runner-up TCU.
