There’s a lot of coaching talent on Deion SandersColorado staff and he raved about them since he accepted the job.

Going into 2023, Sanders made sure to let everyone know his staff is full of experience and has experience in winning. After all, Sanders is all about winning wherever he goes.

Since he added former NFL head coach Pat Shurmur, Sanders again explained why he loved his staff.

“These guys are really good,” Sanders said. “I’ve been talking about them since I got here. They’re really good, they’re really successful … I think the best thing we’ve put together has been the staff. These guys are really good from top to bottom. Also the GAs, they’re doing a phenomenal job as well. The coordinators speak volumes.”

Sanders proceeded to reel off the accomplishments and stats of his full time assistant coaches going into the year.

“The collective experience of the 10 full time assistant coaches and analyst, it amounts to 294 years of coaching. 93 seasons at the power five level, six have college or pro head coaches with 30 years experience amongst them,” Sanders said.

“Four have coached in the NFL for a total of 55 seasons (and there’s) 88 bowl games, 51 10-win seasons, 40 conference championships, 29 playoff appearances, six national championships, 3,295 games coached and 1,860 wins. I think we got a little experience. Did a good job with the staff, proud of it.”

“To win, to win,” Sanders said. “To win, develop, get these guys to the next level, and help them to be men, not boys.

“That’s my expectation and we’re going to eclipse that. We’re going to win. We’re going to win. We’re going to win. I don’t know how to say that, wish I could say it in several different languages, but we’re going to win.”

When he took the job, Sanders made it clear that he was going to add through the transfer portal, and that he was going to push out players who didn’t meet what he wanted for the program.

That rubbed many people the wrong way. However, it also isn’t unique to Sanders in the sport.

At the time, Sanders had a lot to say about his transfer portal usage. However, he was never surprised by the negative reaction.

“Not whatsoever because it’s always been that way,” Sanders said. “Even when I was starting out in sports, I was the one that was not voted ‘Most Likely to Succeed.’ Undersized, this and that it was always a problem. It was always that … So I’m used to that, I’m accustomed to adversity and I’m accustomed to having an understanding of ridicule and disbelief.”
