Deion Sanders on tortillas, water bottles thrown on field: ‘They were throwing everything but my mama at me’

Deion Sanders had quite the line when asked about Texas Tech fans throwing tortillas and other objects onto the field.
He was fine with the food coming down, but drew the line at water bottles. Hard to blame him since one is a tradition and the latter is just throwing debris.
Sanders, ever the wordsmith, can at least smile afterwards since Colorado got the 41-27 win.
“They were throwing everything but my mama at me,” Sanders said postgame. “In my career … I played baseball and football, so batteries and all kind of stuff. So this is normal. So we try to prepare our young men for that. Thank God tortillas … are soft, it’s not hard, but when they start doing the water bottles and those other objects, that’s when you gotta alarm the officials and say, okay. So it’s one thing, but, you know, water bottles and other things, that gets a little crazy. “But I’m thankful, I think Joey (McGuire) grabbed the microphone and tried …
“He said, ‘Man, I apologize.’ I said, ‘No, I had to do it last week. I had to do the same thing. I had to grab the microphone and talk to our students as well.’”
Colorado trailed 13-0 after the first quarter, so it was fair to wonder if the Buffs’ hot streak was coming to end. Sanders was complimentary of his team’s resilience despite the slow start.

“It’s almost like they got to get hit in the face,” Sanders said. “They got to get slapped. They got to feel it and I don’t know why we’re like that, because we do everything in our power, even the way we script practices, to get started fast. The emphasis is let’s get out to a good start. Because we know if we get out to a good start, the sky’s the limit.”
Shedeur Sanders finished the game 30-of-43 passing for 291 yards, three touchdowns and he ran for a score. The run game was limited to 26 rushes for 64 yards, 17 of them coming from Sanders.
Receiving wise, it was pretty balanced. Travis Hunter led the way with nine catches for 99 yards and a touchdown while LaJohntay Wester and Will Sheppard caught the other two scores, combining for 14 catches and 161 yards.
Next up, Coach Prime and Colorado are set for a home game against Utah next Saturday at 12:00 p.m. ET. With three games left, Sanders and crew control their destiny for the Big 12 Championship Game.
