Deion Sanders on Travis Hunter after win over Utah: 'He's the epitome of a football player'
Deion Sanders and Travis Hunter could smile after Saturday following a 49-24 Colorado victory over Utah.
The Buffaloes ran away from the Utes in the fourth quarter and Hunter put up more Heisman numbers playing both ways. It still wasn’t a complete team performance either, according to Sanders.
Now at 8-2 and 6-1 in the Big 12, Colorado is two wins away from the Big 12 Championship Game and a chance to get to the College Football Playoff.
“He let us down a little bit today,” Sanders jokingly said of Hunter to FOX’s Jenny Taft. “They took a shot at him … but he kept his composure and made a big play. Travis is the epitome of a football player. He loves the game, he practices hard, he’s a straight-A student, goes right home after. He ain’t smoking, he ain’t getting high, he doing nothing stupid like that or getting drunk.
“(Travis is) a great human being, and I love him. He he’s the epitome of what this organization is.”

Hunter finished the game with one carry for five yards and a touchdown at the end of the game. As far as his regular numbers are concerned, he had five catches for 55 yards and 3 tackles and an interception.
“We got to play better football. First and foremost,” Hunter told Taft after the game. “It’s one of our terrible games. We didn’t have a good game, but we found a way to come with a win. But we know these last two games, we got to come out and play Colorado football.”
QB Shedeur Sanders also stated his case for Hunter to win the Heisman, which seems like the logical pick at this point.
“He’s the best player in the country hands down. No doubt,” Sanders said. “There’s not a lot of guys that could do what he do on offense and defense. So it’s really tough to compare him to anybody else, because I feel like if he was at a different program, they don’t like us so much. They hate on us too. So it’s real hard, and it made me sad that they don’t give a guy like him his credit, because that’s generational. It ain’t gonna happen again for a long time.”
When asked if he was pleased overall, Deion Sanders had a typical Coach Prime answer.
“Not really, but it allows you to know we’re capable of doing so much more,” Sanders said. “We have yet to put a full game together in all three phases. We’re happy with the victory, of course.”
