Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes were handed a blowout defeat on Saturday afternoon by the Oregon Ducks. The Buffaloes struggled to get much of anything going and were dominated from start to finish, in a 42-6 beatdown.

Following the game, Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders did not hold back with how surprised he was at how poorly his team played.

Deion Sanders spoke candidly about his team’s performance

“I’m not gonna say that. You don’t always have to get your butt kicked to learn. People win and learn. I mean, that’s not something to learn, it’s something to glean from,” Sanders began. “It’s not just the kids, the coaches are accountable, too. We are all accountable. Let’s start with me. We’re accountable for this. It’s not just the kids.”

Was he surprised at how his team played? Yes.

“The way we played?” Sanders asked. “That really surprised me. We played like hot garbage.”

It’s not surprising he was displeased with his team’s performance. There wasn’t much at all to be happy about for Colorado fans on Saturday night, other than the fact that the game was over.

Oregon quarterback Bo Nix played like the Heisman Trophy candidate many people expected him to be on Saturday. He had four total touchdowns, completing 84.6% of his passes in the blowout. Nix tied himself for the second-highest completion percentage in a game in Oregon football history (min. 25 pass attempts), per ESPN Stats & Info. He set the school record against Portland State (85.2%).

Nix completed 28 of his 33 pass attempts for 276 yards, while tossing in three touchdowns and just one interception. He also tacked on a rushing touchdown Saturday night.

Oregon receiver Troy Franklin, Jr. was dominant, hauling in eight catches for 126 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

The Ducks rolled up 524 total yards of offense in the thorough beatdown.

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders was shut down entirely. He completed 24 of his 34 pass attempts, while throwing for 159 yards and one touchdown. Sanders was sacked seven times, exposing a flaw that many already knew about the Buffaloes, their incredibly weak offensive line.

Saturday was the Buffaloes’ first game without their star two-way player, Travis Hunter, who is out for a few weeks due to a lacerated liver. He was knocked out of the team’s win over Colorado State last weekend and did not return.
