Heather Dinich says Deion Sanders is 'absolutely' the face of college football after Week 1
Deion Sanders silenced his critics last weekend as he led the Colorado Buffaloes to one of the most memorable Week 1 wins in recent memory, defeating No. 17 ranked TCU 45-42 in Week 1 after being tabbed as 20.5-point underdogs.
Sanders did things his way, and as a result, has already matched the season win total of last year’s Buffaloes team that finished 2022 with a disappointing 1-11 record. And with all the hype and buzz now surrounding the program, college football insider Heather Dinich was asked if Sanders is currently the face of college football on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’.
“Absolutely he is, and with all due respect to Kirby Smart at Georgia and Nick Saban at Alabama, he is the face of college football,” Dinich said. “Because guys, as long as Deion Sanders has been around sports we have all tuned in to watch him to see what is he going to do? What is he going to say?”
It’s hard to deny the head coach resumes of Smart and Saban, as the two have delivered programs a multitude of conference and national championships and sent numerous players to the next level.
But it’s also hard to deny the entire resume of Sanders, one of the best college football players the game has seen turned into one of the undisputed best players at his position in NFL history, while playing nearly a decade of Major League Baseball at the same time.

Through it all he brought a unique level of personality and gravitational charisma, which he is now using successfully in his career as a head coach, shaking up the norm and standards of college football right before our eyes.
“What he’s done at Colorado has been remarkable, improbable, historic, throw all those words at it because he completely transformed his roster. And I don’t know if there’s any other coach in America that could have done what he did in the time that he did,” Dinich said.
Sanders nearly turned over his entire roster through the transfer portal, a plan that many believed would be unsuccessful, especially in the short term as the Buffaloes were tasked with quickly establishing a culture, building continuity, and most importantly learning how to win under a head coaching making his FBS debut.
But Sanders and his squad have now beat the odds early in the college football season, giving them an unprecedented level of attention that the Colorado program has never seen, making a fair case for him being the current face of the college football landscape.
