Former Colorado wide receiver Keith Miller III dies at 23
On Thursday evening, Texas A&M-Commerce football player Keith Miller died in his apartment. He was 23 years old. Head coach Clint Dolezel released a statement on the heartbreaking situation.
“We are heartbroken by Keith’s unexpected passing,” head coach Clint Dolezel said. “Keith was a beloved father, son, teammate, and student-athlete. We extend our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and all who loved him at this very difficult time.”
Miller spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Colorado before transferring to Texas A&M-Commerce ahead of the 2022 campaign. He was a team captain for the Lions in 2023. He tallied 39 receptions for 457 yards and four touchdowns while at TAMUC.
“We are shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Keith Miller. The A&M-Commerce community extends its deepest condolences to Keith’s family and those who knew and loved him,” TAMUC director of athletics Jim Curry said. “Words are hard to come by at this moment, but we ask that you keep those impacted by this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.”
While Miller did not see any action on the field at Colorado, the school also release a heartfelt statement in the wake of his death.
“The University of Colorado is deeply saddened to learn of the death of Keith Miller III,” the statement read. “Keith was a member of our football program for two seasons in 2020-21 and in every way imaginable was an outstanding young man in addition to being a beloved father, son, and brother.

“He will always be a part of the Buffs family and was taken from us way too soon. His family, teammates from both CU and Texas A&M-Commerce, and all those who knew him are in our thoughts.”
Miller played high school football at The Colony (TX), where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,136 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
A cause of death has not yet been released. Per Colorado’s athletics site, Miller had four siblings. His cousin, Mike Sherrard, played wide receiver at UCLA and played 10 seasons in the NFL for the Cowboys, 49ers, Broncos and Giants.
Miller was interested in becoming an architect after his playing days ended. He enjoyed spending times with friends both on and off the field.
