Former Miami safety Savion Riley has committed to Colorado after previously entering the NCAA transfer portal this spring, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Riley actually played the 2023 season at Vanderbilt, but opted to enter the portal and wound up at Miami back during the December transfer window. After just one semester as a Hurricane, Riley decided to re-evaluate his options and has now decided to head west despite not playing a snap for the Hurricanes.

Out of high school, Riley signed with Vanderbilt as a three-star prospect and the No. 95 safety in the country in the class of 2022, according to the On3 Industry rankings. He played at Kennesaw Mountain High School in Acworth, GA.

Riley played on both sides of the ball in high school, making more than 50 tackles with an interception on defense as a senior and catching 40 passes for 644 yards and eight touchdowns. He originally chose Vanderbilt over Duke.

The Georgia native did not see game action in 2022, before moving into a part-time starter role as a redshirt freshman in 2023. Last fall, Savion Riley played in eight games, making a pair of starts. He finished the year with 48 tackles, even tough he missed four games due to injuries, but finished with the fifth-most takedowns on the team.

To this point in the 2024 cycle, Colorado has the No. 1 ranked transfer class, according to the On3 College Football Team Transfer Portal Rankings. There has been a ton of transfer movement in Boulder with 44 players who have transferred out and now 41 who have transferred into the Colorado program since the end of last season.

One thing that head coach Deion Sanders will need to navigate is getting the Colorado roster to 85 scholarship players. Between incoming transfers and freshmen, teams often need to see players transfer to not end up above that number. Colorado will certainly have no issue having too many players at this rate with nearly half their roster having departed after last season.

This experiment of losing and adding players in mass amounts produced a roller coaster 2023 season with a rough ending, and Sanders and co. will be banking on much better results in 2024.
