Jacksonville State linebacker transfer Reginald Hughes commits to Colorado
Jacksonville State linebacker transfer Reginald Hughes has committed to Colorado, he announced via X on Tuesday night. A nice pickup out of the NCAA transfer portal for the Buffaloes, filling a position of need. Hughes is an experienced player, adding a veteran presence in Boulder.
Other power conference programs were gunning after Hughes, mainly Kentucky. A visit to Lexington was set for later in the week but Colorado got the first trip. Now, it appears as if the Wildcats will not have a shot in this recruitment as Hughes shuts things down.
The journey for Hughes has been a long one, beginning at Northeast Mississippi Community College. He spent two years at the JUCO ranks and was a three-star prospect coming out per the On3 Industry Rankings. Ole Miss won that specific recruitment, being a nice defensive add for Lane Kiffin.
A couple of years later, Hughes was back in the portal but took a step down in competition level. The 2024 season was spent with Jacksonville State and the move certainly paid off. Hughes recorded 82 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, and 26 pressures in 752 defensive snaps while being named first-team All-Conference USA.

Rich Rodriguez left Jacksonville State for West Virginia but Hughes was once again in the portal before his official departure. Making a jump back up to a power conference is now complete, set to compete in the Big 12 with Colorado. Just one more year of eligibility remains as Hughes was originally a member of the 2020 recruiting class.
Per the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings, Hughes was the No. 718 player to enter the portal this cycle and No. 59 when looking specifically at linebacker. He is considered a three-star prospect once again.
