Jimmy Horn Jr. injury update: Deion Sanders reveals latest on Colorado WR ahead of Utah game
Colorado was without one of its top offensive weapons for the second half of its win against Texas Tech, with receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. sidelined by a lower-body injury he sustained in the first half.
Horn’s absence in the second half was noticeable, though the Buffaloes still found the firepower to turn things around against the Red Raiders and secure the win.
Getting Jimmy Horn Jr. back will be a top priority for the Buffaloes ahead of a pivotal contest against Utah this week.
“It’s going to be day by day,” coach Deion Sanders said. “We hope he’s able to work Thursday, if he give us a good Thursday, Friday then he’s a go. Jimmy’s the kind of guy that he likes to practice, but I don’t think he’s capable right now, but you never know how that would change by Thursday, by week’s end.”
Horn was coming off his second best game of the season before he suffered the injury against Texas Tech. In a contest against Cincinnati he logged five catches for 78 yards.

On the season, Jimmy Horn Jr. has now accounted for 33 catches for 434 yards and a touchdown. He’s been a great complement to Travis Hunter, LaJohntay Wester and Will Sheppard, the core of one of the nation’s deepest receiving corps.
“Tremendous asset to our offense,” Sanders explained. “He just enables us a little bit for doing certain things because he’s so explosive and it’s always the threat of him scoring from anywhere on the field. But he’s in the training room early getting his treatment and we’re praying for him right now.”
Prior to enrolling at Colorado, Jimmy Horn Jr. was ranked as a four-star prospect and the No. 373 overall recruit in the nation in the 2021 recruiting class. He was ranked as the No. 55 receiver in the class and the No. 53 overall player from the state of Florida, hailing from Sanford (FL) Seminole.
He initially enrolled at USF and spent two seasons there before transferring to join Sanders at Colorado.
