Joel Klatt backs Travis Hunter as Heisman winner, best player in college football

Joel Klatt backed Travis Hunter as the best player in college football once again after another Colorado win.

The Fox Sports analyst was on hand for the dominating win over Utah where Hunter had an interception, a rushing touchdown and a highlight reel catch. He’s just done it all.

Hunter is by far the best player in college in Klatt’s mind and Saturday made the Heisman case, again.

“Everything that Shedeur Sanders just said about Travis Hunter is absolutely right,” Klatt said on his podcast. “He is the best player in the country. No one’s going to do this in this generation, and maybe a few more to come. He played 132 snaps. That’s insane. He played 132 snaps in this one coming off of a game at Texas Tech that he played 170 snaps. He’s producing on both sides at a level that’s probably going to get him into the finalist conversation for both the Thorpe award for best defensive back and the Biletnikoff Award for best wide receiver … 

“The only part that I will disagree with Shedeur, and maybe even Deion as well, as I do think he’s getting his flowers. I’m certainly giving him his flowers here. And I think others are starting to come around, because the odds makers are making that abundantly clear to every fan of college football, every pundit in college football, is that this guy is the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.” 

Joel Klatt: Travis Hunter is the best player in college football

In 10 games this season, Hunter has 74 catches, 911 yards, nine touchdowns, 12.3 yards per catch, 24 tackles, one tackle for loss, three interceptions, eight pass deflections and one forced fumble.

“Travis is the best player in college football. That’s known,” Klatt said. “Are there other players that are having great seasons? Yes, absolutely. And so I don’t want this to be some sort of argument that I’m trying to dis another player or subtract from a great season that they’re having. But truth be told, Travis is the best player in college football, and that’s pretty clear at this point.

“The odds makers are making that clear. I think a lot of people are making that clear, and if they continue to win, and they get into that Big 12 Championship game, then it is going to be his. Hunter is now as as much in some sports books as -500 to win the Heisman trophy. So he came into last week at minus like -110.”
