Colorado came away as the headline of college football’s Week 1 slate following a stunning 45-42 victory on the road over No. 17 TCU on Saturday.

The Horned Frogs were the reigning national runner-ups nine months prior, and many placed their bets against the Buffaloes ahead of the season-opener. What happened following the opening kickoff is something Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt is calling one of the best performances he’s ever seen.

Colorado QB1 Shedeur Sanders went on to pass for a school record 510 passing yards and four touchdowns — a performance that has been discussed in droves since the Buffs’ seismic upset.

“Shedeur Sanders was the best quarterback in the country on Saturday,” Klatt said on his show. “Now, I don’t know if he will be throughout the entire season but on Saturday, he played better than anyone else in the country. That was an incredible performance by Shedeur Sanders. He’s been a winner everywhere he’s been as the starting quarterback. Every level that he’s played quarterback, he’s been a winner.

“He’s been efficient, he’s been accurate and I tell you, he put on a show on Saturday. It was as good of a performance of any quarterback wearing that uniform that I have ever seen.”

If anyone knows Colorado football, it’s Joel Klatt. He grew up south of Boulder, Colorado and has been going to games at Folsom Field for as long as he can remember. Eventually, he walked-on to the Buffaloes’ program and became the starting quarterback and has seen every game in between.

“I’ve seen all the great performances … that was it,” Klatt said. “Obviously, school record of passing yards — that was the best performance I’ve ever seen in that uniform in my life.”

Shedeur’s father, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, said that his son never forgot that TCU offensive coordinator Kendal Briles overlooked him during Shedeur’s recruiting. He was looking to be recruited by Florida State, where Briles was serving as OC under Willie Taggert. According to Coach Prime, that’s reason Sheduer was “so intense and so relaxed and ready.”

Regardless of his starting quarterback’s motivations, Colorado is 1-0 heading into Week 2 — something no one predicted coming into the season. They’ll host Nebraska — whose season opener didn’t go as well as Colorado’s — this weekend, and Colorado serves as a perfect opportunity for the Huskers to get back on track and derail the nation’s most talked about team.
