Kirk Herbstreit believes the maturity of Deion Sanders’ Colorado squad will be tested in Week 2 against Nebraska.

Of course, the Buffaloes pulled off an amazing upset over the TCU Horned Frogs in Week 1. Not many people outside of Boulder had confidence in Sanders’ team to go in and defeat the reigning national runner-up last weekend.

While the Cornhuskers are coming off of a loss, Herbstreit believes they’ll provide a big test for Colorado, as the ESPN College GameDay analyst is hoping to see the Buffaloes keep their focus and put up a repeat performance against Nebraska.

“Huge win, everybody is excited about it. I mean, it’s become the story honestly, in college football. I think for good reason. They’re going to have to be able to really, for me, show some serious maturity,” said Herbstreit, via ESPN’s SportsCenter. “I’m sure that’s what Coach Prime’s working on. We know about his son Shedeur [Sanders]. We know about Travis Hunter. We know about, they’ve got tremendous playmakers. I think to me, it’s just continuing to be disciplined.

“The way they played last week, I think if you’re really a football guy, they’re kind of an old school team, with the way they line up and play physical, and play with great discipline. I think the maturity of this team will be tested. Any time any team in college football comes off the radar and has a big win, all of a sudden a lot of attention comes on them.”

While Herbstreit relented in saying Deion Sanders is used to being in the spotlight, many of his players at Colorado certainly aren’t. Still, he’s not putting anything past the Buffaloes after what they pulled off against TCU.

“Again, Coach Prime’s done it his whole life, but the players, who are 18, 19, 20. How do they handle all of that noise, because here comes a very determined Nebraska team,” added Herbstreit. “Even though it’s in Boulder, it’s going to be a physical game. Another physical game like it was last week.

“So I’m excited. We’re going to learn another game. Another game, another opportunity to really see about this Colorado team. Not the playmaking ability, but the mindset, and how they handle the success of last week.”

Alas, we’re going to learn a ton about Deion Sanders’ Colorado squad on Saturday, and the hype will only continue to grow if the Buffaloes can get another victory in Week 2.
