Colorado missed out on the College Football Playoff after falling to Kansas late in the year, but Buffaloes players are still fired up for the final game of the 2024 season.

Colorado is facing BYU in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 28 and has an opportunity to earn its 10th win of the season. According to star receiver LaJohntay Wester, Colorado is viewing this as a huge game.

“This is my first real bowl game,” LaJohntay Wester said ahead of the Alamo Bowl. “I had a bowl game in the Montgomery Bowl in 2020, COVID season. I’m just taking it all in. It’s hard to get here. This is our Super Bowl.”

Prior to playing at Colorado, Wester spent four seasons at FAU. He has had an excellent season in his first and only season with the Buffaloes, hauling in 70 passes for 880 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Wester and the Buffaloes were in position to reach the Big 12 Championship Game, before falling to Kansas on Nov. 23 to come up a game short.

Still, at 9-3, Colorado has exceeded just about everyone’s expectations. All of Colorado’s star players stuck around to play in the Alamo Bowl, and Wester said everyone is committed to getting one final win.

“We didn’t make it to the College Football Playoffs, so this is our playoff game. We’re locked in just like this is our Super Bowl. So we’re ready,” he said.

Fellow Colorado receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. added that he also can’t wait for the Alamo Bowl. Horn has played in eight games this season and has 33 receptions for 434 yards and a touchdown.

“It means a lot. It’s been a journey. It’s my first bowl game since I’ve been in college, so I’m real excited, man,” Horn said. “I just want to thank all my teammates and everybody, the coaching staff, the coaches. It’s been a real journey, man. You know, we worked real hard to get where we’re at. I can’t thank nobody enough because I wouldn’t be here without them. It’s been a journey, man.

“I’m just thankful and blessed for this opportunity to be in a bowl game. I cherish this. I’m going to go out there and play real hard. So I’m just ready.”
