Deion Sanders is still building his staff at Colorado and bringing in faces from all over the country to Boulder. The latest was announced on Thursday, with a current head coach leaving his post to join the Buffaloes.

Mississippi Valley State’s Vincent Dancy resigned and will be making the jump to the Power Five level. His exact role with Colorado is not yet known but with the Delta Devils’ season officially being over, the move has been made.

Athletic director Hakim McClellan expressed how grateful he was for Dancy’s work while with Mississippi Valley State. He said Dancy has turned them into “one of the most competitive” teams in the SWAC, being the fifth longest-tenured head coach in program history.

“Over the past four seasons, Coach Vincent Dancy has helped to mold Mississippi Valley State University into one of the most competitive football programs in the Southwestern Athletic Conference,” McClellan said in a statement. “Coach Dancy has represented MVSU and the football program well in that time as the 17th head coach.

“On behalf of Mississippi Valley State University, I want to extend our deepest appreciation to Coach Vincent Dancy for his incredible leadership of our football program. The energy that he poured into his teams was a shining light for MVSU and a point of pride for all the Valley family. More importantly, while Coach Dancy prepared his student-athletes for success on the field, he also ensured they were successful beyond football as proud graduates of Valley State.”

More on Vincent Dancy, move to Colorado

Colorado will be the fourth school Dancy has worked with in his career and the first at the Power Five level. Prior to being the Mississippi Valley State head coach, he was the Delta Devils’ defensive coordinator. Dancy also has coaching experience at Paine and Jackson State.

Sanders will certainly be hiring Dancy to join his defensive staff, where Alabama assistant Charles Kelly is set to be the defensive coordinator.

While Dancy is on his way to Boulder, he will have to wait for his head coach to arrive. Sanders still has to coach in the Celebration Bowl with Jackson State, hoping to win the first in program history.
