Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders continues to receive backlash after stating last week that Colorado is “everybody’s Super Bowl.” ESPN analyst Paul Finebaum spoke during ESPN First Take Monday morning about Colorado’s true place in the college football world.

Finebaum believes that the Buffaloes are only receiving attention because of Deion Sanders, Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter and insists that Colorado isn’t relevant nationally.

“There are so many misconceptions out there. Deion Sanders is the best salesman I’ve ever seen. I personally love the guy for what he stands for. But the program looking out has a ridiculously inflated view of itself,” Paul Finebaum said. “I heard Shedeur Sanders, who is a fabulous quarterback, say last week, ‘We are everyone’s Super Bowl.’

“Shedeur, you are not. You are an easy win nowadays. You got off to a phenomenal start last year beating a couple of mediocre teams that had big names. And quite frankly you haven’t done anything since other than crash and burn.”

Colorado opened last season with a 4-2 record, before dropping its final six games to finish the year 4-8. There is once again hype surrounding the program entering the 2024 season, but Finebaum believes it isn’t warranted at all.

“Anyone asking whether Deion Sanders and Colorado are close to the playoffs simply doesn’t understand the reality of the road,” Finebaum said. “They’re not going to the playoffs this year, and I’m not sure Deion Sanders is ever going to get them to the playoffs, because I don’t think he has the patience to stay at Colorado long enough.”

Finebaum added that he wishes media members would stop giving the Buffaloes so much attention and instead focus on teams with a better chance of making some noise this season.

“I know that the media loves this story. We fall all over ourselves. But Colorado isn’t important in college football. Deion Sanders is,” Finebaum said. “He’s a stand alone person. He’s one of the most charismatic people we’ve ever seen. But Colorado is nothing. They don’t matter. They’re irrelevant in the big picture of college football.”

It’s safe to say that Finebaum didn’t hold back his feelings on Colorado ahead of the 2024 season. The Buffaloes do have a couple of extremely talented playmakers in Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, but Finebaum isn’t sold on the rest of the roster. Colorado is set to open the 2024 season on Thursday, Aug. 28 against North Dakota State.
