Paul Finebaum picks Travis Hunter for Heisman: 'I think it's over'
Paul Finebaum is all-in, check that, “Paul In” on Travis Hunter winning the Heisman Trophy this season. Following another Heisman worthy performance Saturday, Hunter has the award on lock.
Colorado improved to 8-2 with a dominant win over Utah and Hunter scored a touchdown and grabbed an interception. He once again excelled on both sides of the ball.
So despite Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty’s best efforts, it’s Hunter’s award.
“I’m very Paul-in on that,” Finebaum said on SportsCenter. “I think it is over. I know there’s a couple of weeks left, but he, in many ways, won the Heisman before the season because we knew how talented he was. It was just a matter of clearing the rest of the field out. But yesterday, I believe the Heisman pose was properly demonstrated, and he’s got a few more games left. I don’t think he can do any damage, because he is the best player in college football.”
Hunter finished the game with one carry for five yards and a touchdown at the end of the game. As far as his regular numbers are concerned, he had five catches for 55 yards and 3 tackles and an interception.

“He let us down a little bit today,” head coach Deion Sanders jokingly said of Hunter to FOX’s Jenny Taft. “They took a shot at him … but he kept his composure and made a big play. Travis is the epitome of a football player. He loves the game, he practices hard, he’s a straight-A student, goes right home after. He ain’t smoking, he ain’t getting high, he doing nothing stupid like that or getting drunk.
“(Travis is) a great human being, and I love him. He he’s the epitome of what this organization is.”
QB Shedeur Sanders also stated his case for Hunter to win the Heisman, which seems like the logical pick at this point.
“He’s the best player in the country hands down. No doubt,” Sanders said. “There’s not a lot of guys that could do what he do on offense and defense. So it’s really tough to compare him to anybody else, because I feel like if he was at a different program, they don’t like us so much. They hate on us too. So it’s real hard, and it made me sad that they don’t give a guy like him his credit, because that’s generational. It ain’t gonna happen again for a long time.”
