Predicting the win total ceiling, floor for Colorado Buffaloes in 2024 | 06.03.24

On the latest episode of Andy Staples On3 on YouTube, Andy Staples was joined by Ari Temkin from Big 12 Radio on Sirius XM, where they predicted the ceiling and floor for multiple Big 12 programs.

One of those programs that the duo dissected was the Colorado Buffaloes, who should be one of the more interesting teams in the conference, featuring Deion Sanders as the team’s head coach, and Shedeur Sanders as the team’s quarterback.

“Now we get to the one that’s going to get everyone yelling at us,” Staples said, regarding the Buffaloes. “The ceiling, when we’re optimistic, is going to make a lot of people mad. And the floor, when we’re pessimistic, is going to make a completely different group of people mad, because everybody has a strong opinion about Coach Prime, of course we’re talking about the Colorado Buffaloes.”

Ceiling: 8 or 9 Wins (Staples), College Football Playoff (Temkin)

This is exactly what Staples is talking about, as he predicted a ceiling of eight to nine wins for the Buffaloes, Temkin believes in Shedeur Sanders plays up to his potential, Colorado could be a College Football Playoff squad.

“I mean, if you’ve got the best quarterback in college football, you’ve got a chance. And I think people are forgetting that like, Shedeur’s so good, despite the fact that they had no offensive line play. So imagine that they get just like, just a little bit, just an inch more better offensive line play,” Temkin explained, regarding Colorado’s Playoff chances. “They live in the extremes, right? Colorado lives in the extremes.

“Either they’re so good, or so bad. I think if you have a more nuanced look at them, that quarterback situation is really good.”

Floor: 4-8 (Staples), 6-6 (Temkin)

As for their floor, Staples believes it could get rough for Colorado, while Temkin is of the opinion that Sanders’ squad will be making it to a bowl game regardless in 2024.

“I have said, I don’t know that they’re gonna be much better than they were last year,” Staples stated. “Now, what does not much better mean? How much better could this team be? … It’s just a matter of what you can do in conference. So, I’m going to put the floor at 4-8, same as last season.

“I think there’ll be better than that. I just don’t know if there’ll be a lot better than that. But in terms of what they can be, like if this offensive line turns out to be pretty good, this is this could be an eight or nine win team.”

Alas, it remains to be seen how the Colorado Buffaloes end up playing in 2024, but it’s evident Deion Sanders’ team has some fascinating potential during the upcoming campaign.
