Despite not facing each other this season, Boise State and Colorado are going toe-to-toe against one another. The programs have the two Heisman Trophy favorites at the moment, Ashton Jeanty and Travis Hunter. Both want to see their guy win and have been quite vocal about it.

Even so, Shedeur Sanders says Colorado is not “forcing” Hunter into the race. While he did not name Boise State or Jeanty by name on Saturday, the Colorado quarterback did imply that the Broncos are. Sanders did quickly backtrack on the potential shot.

“We don’t go into a game being like ‘We got to get Trav the Heisman.’ Some teams do that for their players,” Sanders said. “I’m just playing but we don’t go into a game like that. It’s all natural and it all happens. We’ve been working on that for three, four weeks. It’s about timing and everything. It’s intentional like ‘We got to force Trav to do this.'”

Colorado was up by 18 late in the fourth quarter against Utah but was deep in the red zone in a first-and-goal situation. A reverse play was called for Hunter and Sanders looked as if he was going out on a route. Utah almost blew up the play but somehow, Hunter found his way in the end zone.

While he ran a whole lot more on the play, Hunter was credited with five yards and a touchdown on his lone carry of the day. You can add in five receptions for 55 yards, three tackles, a PBU, and an interception. Just another day in the office for Hunter, leading Colorado to another win and staying the course in the Big 12 Championship race.

Boise State has not yet played, scheduled to face San Jose State on Saturday night. Jeanty will have an opportunity to add to his Heisman Trophy campaign, whether the Broncos are “forcing” it or not.
