Shedeur Sanders explains what its like with so much family around Colorado football program
For Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders, playing football is a family affair. After all, his father is Deion Sanders, the team’s head coach. Meanwhile, his brother Shilo Sanders is patrolling the defensive backfield for the Buffaloes. Even Bucky Sanders is around the program, working to promote the team.
Despite having all that family around, Sanders thinks that he has familial relationships with his teammates too. He even admitted that he spends as much if not more time with his offensive teammates than he does with his brothers.
“It’s real fun,” Shedeur Sanders said. “But each and every player, we’re family also, especially on the offensive side of the ball because we spend the most time with each other.”

“So, those guys, we’re around each other more than I’m around my own siblings, honestly. So, those guys understand that we all have a connection in a way, so we’re all family.”
Both Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders transferred to Colorado from Jackson State. There, they played under Deion Sanders, just like they do now. So, this is nothing new for them. They’re just doing it at the FBS level now.
Still, being the son of the coach who he brought in to play quarterback comes with huge expectations for Shedeur Sanders to live up to. At the same time, Deion Sanders admitted he doesn’t know a way to do it without being family orientated.

“I don’t know no other way. This is the way it has always been. You guys are just getting an opportunity to see it. So I don’t know no other way,” Sanders said. “My family was in Jackson, [Mississippi] with me. My kids have always been with me.”
Shedeur Sanders on focusing on football amid his father’s medical issues
Unfortunately, Deion Sanders has dealt with some well-publicized medical issues. Amid this, Shedeur Sanders has had to stay focused on transitioning to being the starting quarterback at Colorado.
“Because he’s had surgery before, he didn’t make it seem like a big deal to us,” Shedeur said. “He didn’t let us know [he was having surgery]. He didn’t really tell us until someone called me to tell me he was having surgery the next day. I really didn’t know until the next day.”
Last season with Jackson State, Shedeur Sanders completed 70.6 percent of passes for 3,732 yards and 40 touchdowns. He also ran for six scores.
