There was a notable absence from Pac-12 Media Day on Friday as Colorado head coach Deion Sanders missed the event due to another surgery. “Coach Prime” has dealt with blood issues the last few years and underwent a follow-up procedure on his foot on Thursday.

Sanders’ son Shedeur was at Media Day, though, and provided a promising update on his dad.

“My pops is doing real good,” Shedeur Sanders said on College Football Live. “I just got off the phone with him and he’s just excited that we’re out here, we’re doing Media Day. He wishes he could be here but he can’t right now.”

It’s been seven months since Deion Sanders left Jackson State to take the head coach position at Colorado. Shedeur admitted it hasn’t necessarily been easy, but the team has come together as a unit to get through the transition and prepare for the season.

“It’s been a lot mentally, moving out to Colorado,” Shedeur Sanders said. “Knowing what he’s going through, just himself, and building a team, building a program. Just everything, just having the guys mesh together. It’s been a lot. It’s been a lot on, I would say, myself mentally and a lot of players. But we’re just here, pulling together.”

After Colorado announced Deion Sanders would miss Pac-12 Media Day, he explained what exactly was wrong. He’s still having issues with his leg, and the doctors had to go in and remove another blood clot.

“I apologize that I am not going to be at the Pac-12 Media Day,” Sanders said, via ESPN. “I have to have another surgery tomorrow. A couple surgeries. One in my leg to remove the clots… I’m really dislocated on the bottom.”

Sanders is expected back by fall camp to coach the Buffaloes in his inaugural season with the program. A lot of eyes are on Colorado this season after Sanders’ transformative offseason with the transfer portal and recruiting.

Shedeur Sanders was one of the many additions from the portal as Deion transformed the roster. Colorado saw 57 players players leave the program, but the Buffaloes brought in 50 more to give them the No. 3-ranked transfer class this cycle, according to the On3 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. The transfer class is headlined by Travis Hunter, who also followed Sanders from Jackson State and came in as the No. 1-ranked transfer from the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings.
