Colorado may not have played on the national stage this weekend but their game was still one of the best in college football. A game-winning kick was needed inside of the final minute to beat Arizona State, giving the Buffaloes their fourth win of the year. Bowl eligibility is likely the goal in Boulder this season and Saturday was a huge step toward achieving it.

Shedeur Sanders was a huge part of the drive to set up the field goal, hitting a deep ball to begin the drive. He broke down the drive, saying nobody on the Colorado sideline ever lacked confidence. Not really a surprise considering the situations their offense has been through in recent weeks.

“It was just like practice,” Sanders said. “Just trusting the play call. Understand what time it is. They left too much time on the clock and we knew that. Nobody on the sideline panicked or flinched. Nobody didn’t believe. I definitely knew what was going to happen because you’re going to do what it takes to win. But they simply left too much time on the clock.”

Arizona State was able to tie the game with a touchdown on a 13-play, 94-yard drive. Their only issue was taking just over 2.5 minutes off the clock. Colorado had around 47 seconds to make something happen and the experience of Sanders was going to get the job done.

Sanders connected with Javon Antonio on a 43-yard pass on the first play, putting Colorado in field goal range. Four plays later, Alejandro Mata hit the kick and hearts were broken in Tempe.

Colorado earns fourth win, two games away from earning bowl eligibility

If you told Colorado fans a year ago they would be sniffing bowl eligibility in October, they would call you crazy. Everything changed when Deion Sanders was hired and the program began to take a turn.

Three wins came right off the bat, taking down TCU, Nebraska, and Colorado State in front of the entire nation. Everybody was following the story of Coach Prime and the success was bringing a new viewership to college football.

But when the lights were not so bright on the national stage, they were still pretty bright for Shedeur Sanders. A great win for the program as the improvement continues to be evident in Boulder. Just two more wins and Colorado will be playing in the postseason for the first time since 2020.
