Shedeur Sanders jokes about playing for father, avoiding gameday conversations
When Deion Sanders took the job at Colorado, he made it clear that he was going to be bringing in a slew of transfers to try and flip the roster. One of those players is quarterback Shedeur Sanders, his son who played for him at Jackson State.
Now, Sanders has joked about playing for his father and avoiding gameday conversations.
“I mean, from my experience with him, I stay away from him on gameday,” Shedeuer Sanders said. “I don’t ask him nothing, I don’t hang around, I don’t play with him — I just keep my distance from him.”

“Like, the first day of anything, and then when it’s gameday, it’s exactly the same. He’s gonna snap. So, I just keep my distance from him on those types of big days,” Sanders smiled.
It’s hard to deny that Shedeur Sanders has found success playing for his father. In two seasons at Jackson State, Sanders threw for 6,963 yards and 70 touchdowns to only 14 interceptions. Jackson State went 23-3 during those seasons.
Shedeur Sanders credits this gameday success to the coaches that his father hires to put him and the team in a position to succeed.

“I mean, I don’t know what strategy you have. He’s got coaches in the right positions that will prepare us and get us ready for the games. So, for him, he’s just making sure everything goes right. Like that’s it in my eyes, but I’m not around them so, you know, I don’t really what it takes,” Sanders explained.
“But, to me, that’s it.”
Shedeur Sanders on his relationship with Travis Hunter
Another player that made the jump from Jackson State to Colorado was former five-star recruit, Travis Hunter. He’s a cornerback that was able to also play wide receiver for Jackson State, helping establish a good relationship with Shedeur Sanders.
“Of course I have with Travis, Travis is my youngin’. He’s my little guy, man. Travis, nah he definitely, he definitely been winning, getting open all the time,” Sanders said.
“Travis is always open over there, unless they double him. There’s not too many teams that are going to be able to double him, because we’ve got guys that compliment each other at each position. So having Travis on offense, it’s an amazing weapon to have.”
