Shedeur Sanders was one of many talented Big 12 players in Las Vegas, NV, participating in the 2024 Big 12 Media Days. The Buffaloes’ star quarterback had a ton to address as Colorado gears up for its return season in the conference it helped found.

At the Big 12 Media Days, Sanders reflected on this year’s team and addressed his expectations for the rapidly approaching 2024 season.

“This is a new team,” Sanders said. “Whatever happened last year doesn’t have anything to do with them. It’s new players, we’re better at every position, we’re better versions of ourselves. So you should not expect a lesser result in that.”

Sanders and Colorado got off to a hot start last season, his first year as Colorado’s starting quarterback. The buffaloes went 3-0 to start the year, earning a ranking in the college football top 25. However, back-to-back losses to two of the elite programs in the Pac-12 last season, Oregon and USC, started what would be a tumultuous tumble to end the year.

Colorado ended the year with six straight losses and went 1-8 in conference play. Although they put up a valiant fight in most of those games, Colorado could not overcome its offensive line struggles, resulting in a 4-8 finish to the year.

This year, Sanders does not expect the end of last season to follow them into 2024. Given the amount of talent Colorado has been able to acquire over the offseason, the Buffaloes quarterback prediction might be right on the nose.

Sanders reveals how Shedeur Sanders elevated his game this offseason

The Buffaloes are going into their second season with Deion Sanders at head coach and his son Shedeur Sanders at quarterback. This comes a year after Shedeur flashed his talent but now wants to take a major step forward.

At Big 12 Media Days, Deion Sanders met with the ESPNU broadcast. There, he broke down and shared the ways that Shedeur has elevated his game this offseason.

“Work on some of the little, mechanical things,” Deion Sanders said. “He has a tremendous quarterback coach out of Houston. He does a wonderful job.”

“But he works on the little things and not just the mechanics of footwork and everything and ball placement and releases, but getting to know his players, his receivers, where they want the ball. You can see in seven-on-sevens, after practice, grabbing a guy, pulling them to the side, and he’s telling him what he saw.”
