Shedeur Sanders doesn’t understand why opposing coaches keep giving Deion Sanders and Colorado added motivation.

That latest to do so was Jay Norvell of Colorado State, who talked about doing promos for ESPN this week on his radio show Wednesday and said, “I told them, ‘I took my hat off, and I took my glasses off.’ And I said, ‘When I talk to grown-ups, I take my hat and my glasses off.’ That’s what my mother taught me.”

Of course, it was a dig at the Buffaloes head coach, who responded by explaining the comments were “personal,” and his players believe so as well. His son and quarterback, the aforementioned Shedeur Sanders, explained why he was baffled by the comments during an appearance on ESPN’s First Take on Friday.

“I mean, at first you know, I’m not really on social media during the week, so then I find out (through) word of mouth, and somebody showed me the video, and it’s like, you’ve got to be a fool to do that,” Sanders said. “You’ve got to be a fool to do that. You’ve got his son playing quarterback, and his other son playing safety. So it’s like, come on now. You’re asking for it. … It’s just extra motivation. That’s what it is.

“During the week, we have a great approach to the game, but then when you make it overly personal, like we respect the team. We respect the opposing players. But now, when you make it that, it’s all respect gone. It is what it is.”

Alas, Shedeur Sanders has treated every game like it was personal, and he’s lighting up opponents thus far in 2023, and leading the Heisman race. With some added motivation from Colorado State, it could be a bloodbath when it’s all said and done.

The Rams won’t give the Buffaloes anything, but you can believe the Sanders family will take whatever they can on Saturday night. It’s going to be fascinating to see how the rivalry showdown shakes out in Boulder.

Desmond Howard criticizes Jay Norvell’s personal slight of Deion Sanders:  ‘He stepped over the line’

Continuing, ESPN analyst Desmond Howard was not a fan of Jay Norvell‘s criticism about Deion Sanders, and made it very clear during Friday’s episode of Get Up

“I was really disappointed when I heard about the comments,” Howard said. “I thought that they were unnecessary and very disrespectful. If you know anything about Deion Sanders — and I’m not even talking about Coach Prime — but if you know anything about Deion Sanders, he gives all credit to God and he gives all credit to his mother. He’s very, very close to his mother and the way she raised him. He’s been a perfect example of how to conduct himself for all of these young men that he’s been coaching, mentoring and bringing along. So for this coach to go out there, and that wasn’t even a low shot, that’s just below the belt line, so to speak, for him to say what he did.

“It was petty to say, ‘Okay, I take my glasses off and hat off when I speak to adults.’ But then for him to go over the line. He stepped over the line with the, ‘well and cause that’s how my parents raised me, my mom raised me or how I was raised.’ However he phrased it, that’s taking it to a whole ‘nother level that it never should’ve gone. It just speaks of that coach’s jealousy, his insecurity. We not even talking about him. Most people (don’t) even know this coach’s name if it wasn’t for that comment. I was very disappointed.”
