Shedeur Sanders on Texas Tech throwing tortillas: ‘It just felt really wrong’
Shedeur Sanders respected Texas Tech as a program but didn’t quite understand the throwing of tortillas, a school tradition.
It can be weird for outsiders to the school and the Colorado QB was just the latest to experience seeing food flying everywhere. Of course, other debris was thrown at some point during the game, such as water bottles.
Overall, Sanders said he appreciated the Red Raiders as an opponent, but could do without the tortillas.
“I (thought) the environment was crazy, the tortillas and all that,” Sanders said on his podcast 2Legendary. “Like, coach was saying that during the week, but I’m like, I don’t know what he’s talking about, because I didn’t think that type of stuff was, like, possible. I didn’t think it was legal or anything, but I guess it was just normal there. You know, you got tortillas flying on people’s jerseys and the back of their heads and all that type of stuff. It just felt really wrong, bro.”
Once Colorado settled in following a 13-0 deficit, Sanders and the offense rolled in the 41-27 win. He finished the game 30-43 passing for 291 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a score.
With the win, Colorado improved to 7-2 and controls its own destiny for the Big 12 Championship, and ultimately, the College Football Playoff. Texas Tech fell to 6-4.
“I feel like, overall, Texas Tech as a team, they’re a great team,” Sanders said. “They had a great defense. Defensive coaches had a great scheme, and they started out with a (fast) start. But with all that we knew to not flinch, not panic, don’t worry about anything.

“Don’t look at the scoreboard. That was the motto to the offense. Don’t look at the scoreboard. Don’t matter. We gotta go out there, we gotta score. So then consecutively, we punted, punted, punted, punted, then we finally got in the end zone. So that’s kind of like what gave us our spark. It gave everybody confidence that we finally arrived.”
Shedeur Sanders is on board with father Deion Sanders about taking Colorado to the promised land, especially super fan Miss Peggy.
“Miss Peggy in her own tremendous, loving way, she gives all of us hope,” Deion Sanders said. “She gives all of us that unspeakable joy. That love. That respect. You know how many decades we are apart but we still found one another? I thank God for that. Just the little things she whispers. That’s the remembrance of certain little things that she may say. Her asking me about my mother.
“…Because Peggy is just, she is like that, man. She gives me so much energy every darn time I see her. You guys thought I was joking. I was really dedicated to getting Peggy to a bowl game. Now we’re trying to get Peggy to THE game. It was a bowl game. Now it’s THE game.”
