Shedeur Sanders quips about dad Deion disliking snow, lauds Colorado fans for showing out in the snow
One of the most anticipated days for Colorado football this century wasn’t going to be dampened by a bit of snow and cold temperatures. But for two of the main attractions — new head coach Deion Sanders and his son and starting quarterback Shedeur Sanders — football in the snow is taking some adjustment.
And with more than 45,000 people officially showing up to watch Colorado scrimmage, Shedeur Sanders was enamored with the crowd that went out in the elements to cheer on the Buffaloes. And he was equally impressed with the grounds crew getting the field into playable condition after overnight snow.
“Oh my god, this is crazy,” Shedeur Sanders said of his reaction looking around the stadium. “Especially this morning. We came, the whole field was covered in snow. Then, we get out here, the grounds crew did an amazing job — something I’ve never seen before — but then, all the fans are here packed to the top for a spring game. … But it’s exciting, though, having all the fans and hope Buffalo nation and everyone’s able to watch you perform and practice.”
While it might’ve been an exciting day for Shedeur, he’s not so sure his dad was embracing the winter weather. A Florida native, Deion Sanders is already not one predisposed to the cold weather and his son noted that, due to a past medical event, he isn’t going around with a full complement of digits on his feet.
So with a high of 41 degrees and a low of 27 with freezing rain and snow, Deion Sanders wasn’t thriving on the sideline.

“He’s not a big snow guy. He doesn’t have all the warmth in his shoes. His shoes don’t really cover. You know, he’s missing two toes. He’s got extra space in there, so it may get a little chilly in there,” Shedeur Sanders said.
The good news for the new Colorado head coach is the Pac 12 offers some warmer road destinations — at least until USC and UCLA bail. But with road games in the state of Arizona as only an occasional nicety, Deion Sanders will probably find a way to embrace the foul weather like his son did.
Either that, or he’ll be in the market for some thick wool socks and waterproof footwear, among other items. Just one of many adjustments as the Sanders’ take the Colorado, the Pac 12 and college football by storm.
