Colorado has a brand new identity under Deion Sanders. The new look Buffaloes program will be led on the field by a dynamic duo in Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders.

That duo was on display during Saturday’s spring game, as Sanders threw a perfect ball to Hunter in the endzone for an early touchdown. That’s a sight that Colorado fans should probably get used to.

After the spring game, Sanders and Hunter met with the media side-by-side and opened up on the importance of having a strong connection as a quarterback-wide receiver duo. Both answers boiled down to a simple concept: Trust.

“The main thing [in a] quarterback-receiver relationship is trust,” Sanders said. “That’s everything. If I trust him and I know regardless of anything he’s not gonna let [anybody] pick my ball, then the catches gonna go up.

“I’m just really proud of the whole receiver core, just stepping up. I was just excited that everybody stepped up. Everybody had a great time.”

Hunter, Sanders have already built a strong connection

Last season at Jackson State, Sanders completed 70.6% of his pass attempts, throwing for 3,732 yards with 40 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also had six rushing touchdowns. Hunter played primarily on defense as a freshman at Jackson State last year, but now he and Sanders are looking to be a dominant offensive duo.

They clearly know what to expect of each other.

“Like he said, pretty much trust,” Hunter responded. “Every time I mess up on offense or I’m not in the right place or I get there too quick, after the drive I’ll go over there and talk to him and be like, ‘What do you need me to do right here.’ And then he’ll let me know and we’ll just fix it. So you’ve got to fix it along the road. You can’t just act like it never happened. You’ve got to listen and see what his point of view is, because sometimes maybe I can’t see what he sees. So just try and gel and get everything correct so when we go out there next time we won’t have another problem.”

After Hunter’s response, Sanders chimed back in and began a hilarious exchange between the two. Both Sanders and Hunter know that they need to connect on deep balls, for both of their sakes.

“And then the deep balls, I’ve got to hit him perfectly,” Sanders added. “Because then I’m gonna see on film him raising his arms up pouting and everything. I told him, ‘Don’t do that, bro.’ You know he can get an attitude a little bit.”

“I just hate running down the field for no reason,” Hunter jokingly answered.
