Shedeur Sanders evaluates Colorado's remodeled receiver room, how Travis Hunter fits in

Shedeur Sanders is a big fan of Colorado’s remodeled wide receiver room and likes that Travis Hunter could be a big part of the offense.

Hunter, a two-way star at receiver and defensive back, practices both ways with Colorado, just as he did at Jackson State. As part of Deion Sanders’ roster makeover, Hunter is a part of an interesting group.

Overall, Shedeur Sanders couldn’t wait to get it rolling in the Buffaloes’ offense in 2023.

“You got four-wide, it’s easy out there,” Sanders said. “You got people that can make plays in these positions. It’s real fun playing in (this) offense. Travis is out there with us sometimes, you know he goes back and forth with the defense. But hopefully tomorrow he’s with us when we scrimmage. When all of those guys are on the field, it’s real fun, it’s real electric.”

Almost the entire group are transfers. Xavier Weaver, Jimmy Horn Jr. and Willie Gaines are just some of the guys expected to contribute right away as pass catchers.

Sanders comes in with credentials. He threw for 3,732 yards, 40 touchdowns, six interceptions and a 70.6% completion percentage last year. Sanders added 173 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

In total, Sanders tossed 70 touchdowns and ran for nine more in two years at Jackson State. Sanders might just get some more help from Hunter this year.

Recently, following the Buffaloes’ fifth day of training at their fall camp, Hunter revealed which areas Sanders improved the most over the course of the offseason .

“I would probably say his accuracy and timing pretty much. And his footwork has got a lot better,” Hunter said.

Sanders and Hunter might be a lethal combination this fall. At the very least, it’ll be a talked about pairing this year.

Hunter is attempting to walk a similar path as his head coach this year, as Colorado plans to use him offensively and defensively. Last season at Jackson State, he showed what he could do on the defensive side of the ball, recording 19 total tackles, 15 solo with two interceptions, one forced fumble, and a defensive touchdown. 

And if his play on offense can match his confidence and his defensive abilities, Hunter could be well on his way to a Heisman-worthy season in 2023, as could Sanders.
