Report: Shedeur Sanders won't play in Colorado finale vs. Utah
Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders won’t play against Utah Saturday, according to Brian Howell of BuffZone.
Sanders exited last week’s loss to Washington state with a hand injury. His status was up in the air all week, according to his father and head coach Deion Sanders.
But now, Shedeur Sanders won’t suit up in the season finale.
On Wednesday, during the Colorado Football Coaches Show, Deion Sanders, provided an update on the star quarterback status for the game.
“We don’t know about Shedeur’s availability right now. We’re praying because I think Weaver is less than 100 yards away from 1000. And I think Shedeur had a couple of personal things that he could accomplish,” Sanders said.
“It’s some other personal things that the guys could accomplish, and I want them to accomplish. But it’s much easier with Shedeur; it’s gonna be a challenge without. We’re going to have to pull together as a unit if that’s the case.”
Sanders exited the field early in Colorado’s 56-14 loss to the Washington State Cougars with a hand injury. It was initially said he was held out of the remainder of the game as a precaution. But given the Buffaloes’ head coach’s statements above, the situation surrounding Sanders’s health might be more concerning than originally believed.

After the loss in Pullman, though, Deion Sanders also discredited any idea that the program would be shutting down Shedeur just because they could.
“Shedeur is not that kind of player that he wants to shut down,” Deion Sanders said. “He wants to finish with his teammates. I’m pretty sure. I haven’t talked to him about it. But I’m pretty sure he wants to.”
Although Colorado left the spotlight over the past few weeks, Sanders remained one of the sport’s larger stories of the season. In his 11 games as a Buffalo, he threw for over 3,200 yards and totaled 31 touchdowns. His official yardage on the season of 3,230 yards also broke the school’s single season record – one that Sefo Liufau had held since 2014 – against the Cougars.
Those numbers put him in the conversation for The Heisman Trophy early on and for the NFL Draft, whether this season or next.
