Shilo Sanders injury update: Colorado DC Robert Livingston claims status is 'above my pay grade'
Colorado Buffaloes defensive back Shilo Sanders was in a non-contact jersey to start off Fall Camp, leading to concerns about his injury status.
Following practice, defensive coordinator Robert Livingston was asked for an update on Shilo Sanders’ status. However, he didn’t have a direct answer, explaining that it was best to go to Shilo’s father, head coach Deion Sanders, instead.

“It’s above my pay grade,” Robert Livingston said. “You’re gonna have to ask the head coach. Yeah, we’re in a good spot there.”
Now in his second season with the program, Shilo Sanders is expected to be a key piece of Colorado’s secondary.
In 2023, Sanders had 70 total tackles and an interception that he returned for a touchdown. He was also credited with three passes defended and four forced fumbles. He also has plenty of experience, having previously played at South Carolina and Jackson State.
That strong season from Shilo Sanders came in what was, overall, a bad year for the Colorado defense. The Buffaloes were 124th in scoring defense, giving up 34.8 points per game. In the process, Colorado was also 130th in total defense, giving up 453.3 yards per game, and 127th in passing defense, giving up 276.9 passing yards per game.

Sanders is gonna be relied upon to help fix those issues but it, ultimately, is going to fall on the shoulders of Robert Livingston. In his first season with the program, Livingston comes over from the NFL and should help to both develop and scheme up a stronger defense.
Back in the spring, Shilo Sanders praised the defense under Robert Livingston.
“Having a pro coach who was just in the NFL because I’ll be wondering how it is as a college player, what is it gonna be like in the league? How are the coaches in the league? And it’s like the league right now. He’s not even used to being in college still, like with the hashes and stuff. How we practice — we practice really hard. It’s still, like new. Cause they be taking care of each other in practice and stuff, but like he’s fresh from the NFL,” Sanders said.
“I couldn’t have asked for more, honestly. The experience with the Super Bowl and what more can you ask for if you’re a DB? What situation would you more want to be in?”
How improved Colorado is in 2024 remains to be seen. However, it does appear the pieces are in place to put up better numbers on that side of the ball.
