Colorado defensive back Shilo Sanders underwent surgery on a finger injury, according to a video posted to Deion Sanders’ Instagram. Coach Prime called the surgery a success.

In the video, Shilo Sanders was seen talking to his dad via FaceTime while awaiting the procedure. In the caption, Deion Sanders said it went well and he’s “just fine.”

“Yall pray for @shilosanders he made it out of surgery just fine but he still crazy as ever!” Deion Sanders wrote.

Shilo Sanders was a key part of the Colorado defense this past season, totaling 55 tackles along with an 80-yard pick-six after transferring from Jackson State. He turned in his biggest game against Utah when he had 11 tackles in the Buffaloes’ final game of the regular season.

Year 1 under Coach Prime ended with a 4-8 record after a 3-0 start to the season. It wasn’t the ending Deion Sanders necessarily expected, and he’s once again doing major work in the transfer portal this offseason. Colorado currently ranks No. 2 in the On3 Industry Team Transfer Portal Rankings.

The Buffaloes were the story of college football at the start of the 2023 season, but it seemed like the conversation shifted a bit as the losses piled up. However, Sanders said he wasn’t worrying much about what others thought of the program and said he expects criticism because he’s dealt with it throughout his career.

“First of all, I really don’t give a darn how we’re treated honestly,” Sanders said. “I really don’t care. I can’t say what’s fair, what’s unfair. I really can’t say what’s fair to who because they’re thought process is not my thought process. I’m going to always come with criticism because of who I am. And then that’s going to project on our kids because they play for me, as well as the coaches.

“So it would never be the same love or compassion. It’s always going to be a use-use type of situation. That’s what it’s always gonna be. You’re gonna use me for clicks. But you gonna hit me while they click.”

It was easy to criticize Sanders considering the team was 3-0 and then finished 4-8. But he ultimately gave the program hope for the future.

“We implemented hope. Now? There’s expectation,” Sanders said. “We’re going from hope to expectation. First-year head coaches? This is hard to fathom. First-year head coaches that took over a program that were fired? We had the best record of people that were fired that someone came in and took over the program.”
