Travis Hunter becomes first player to win Big 12 Offensive, Defensive Player of the Week
Travis Hunter made history during Colorado‘s Week 9 win over Cincinnati on Saturday.
Following the 34-23 victory over the Bearcats, Hunter was not only named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week but was also awarded Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors as well. He is the first player to earn both titles in the same week — another feather in the cap of Hunter as he continues his path to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist.
On the offensive end, Hunter caught nine passes for 153 yards and a pair of touchdowns while defensively logging four pass breakups and a pair of tackles.
“Well, we never doubt Travis whatsoever,” Coach Prime said after the Cincinnati win. “So him being himself is just what we expect. That’s the only thing we expect. We don’t expect to see anything else.”
On the season, Hunter has compiled 60 catches for 757 yards, eight touchdowns (all career highs), 21 total tackles, one tackle for loss, two interceptions, seven pass deflections and one forced fumble.

“Travis is the best college football player in the country,” Deion Sanders continued. “We all know that. Why are we even deliberating over that? … Somebody needs to say, what are the criteria for that prestigious award? Because we’re looking for the best college football player ever. There has never been a Travis Hunter, ever. And I’m up here saying that.”
Not only has Hunter been honored twice for his services against Cincinnati, but he can also celebrate the fact that his team is bowl-bound for the first time under Coach Prime. Heading into the final four-game stretch of the regular season, not only is Colorado ranked (23) in the latest AP Top 25 Poll but they also don’t play another ranked team down that stretch.
Unfortunately for the Buffs, none of those teams are at the top of the Big 12 standings, and what happens with BYU, Iowa State, and Kansas State over the next month will decide whether or not Travis Hunter and Colorado play for a Big 12 Championship.
