Travis Hunter claims all of his camp plays are his best
During his time on the field, legendary Hall of Famer turned Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders was never short on confidence. Ultimately, that worked out well for him in his playing career, and it’s something that some of his star players are modeling. Take last year’s second-overall ranked recruit in the nation, Travis Hunter, for example. When asked what his best play in the Buffaloes fall camp so far, the Colorado two-way player gave an answer straight out of his head coach’s playbook.
“All of them. Any play that I’ve made,” said Hunter at the Buffaloes’ fall camp.
Sanders’ confidence has been a long-standing character trait of his which dates back well before his days in the NFL, when he used to stalk Doak Campbell Stadium at Florida State. His ability to impact the game on defense, recording 14 interceptions and three defensive touchdowns, and on special teams, 126 punt returns and three touchdowns, in his four-year collegiate career made him a bona fide first-round pick in the 1988 NFL Draft, where he went fifth overall to the Atlanta Falcons.
Hunter is attempting to walk a similar path as his head coach this year, as Colorado plans to use him offensively and defensively. Last season at Jackson State, he showed what he could do on the defensive side of the ball, recording 19 total tackles, 15 solo with two interceptions, one forced fumble, and a defensive touchdown. And if his play on offense can match his confidence and his defensive abilities, Hunter could be well on his way to a Heisman-worthy season in 2023.
Hunter cites Deion Sanders’ experience for why they fit together
Hunter has a great relationship with Sanders, made evident by his decision to join the NFL great at Jackson State, followed by Colorado. Hunter is the best example of it all, being the No. 2 player in the 2022 class. Sanders and Hunter just get along super well, maybe because they had similar goals during their respective playing days.

“He’s done this before,” Hunter said. “He ain’t got to say nothing. He’s got a gold jacket and that’s what I am chasing.”
Sanders is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame (2011) and the Pro Football Hall of Fame (also in 2011). Of course, when Hunter is referencing the gold jacket, he’s looking to be inducted into the latter. Two more seasons separate Hunter from having the opportunity to declare for the NFL Draft.
