Travis Hunter is the best player in college football and the Heisman Trophy put a stamp on that, but we all know he’s an avid fisherman.

If you didn’t know, Hunter loves to get out on his boat, go catch some fish and be at peace. Heck, this kid said he didn’t listen to any music!

But he’s an old soul and it’s quite refreshing to see a top tier athlete be unplugged. He joined SportsCenter Sunday following his award.

“I fish for bass, large mouth and small mouth,” Hunter said. “And, yeah, you know, peacock bass, whenever I get a chance to go to Florida. But you know what I get out of it? Just being patient. You know, you got to be patient to go out there and catch fish. Especially when I go out there on my boat, it’s peaceful. I’m excited to be on the water, be at peace with myself, you know? And it brings out a lot of fun and enjoyment for a lot of people. So I like to take as many people as I can when I go.”

As far as fishing in Boulder, Hunter loves it. However, he doesn’t want to deal with freezing temperatures!

“I caught a couple of trout,” Hunter said. “But, you know, that’s not my thing. That’s not my go to. I don’t like to be in the cold, but when it is cold, you know, I go catch some trout. I catch me some stripers or some hybrids.”

Hunter is also the second winner from Colorado, joining the late Rashaan Salaam. He’s also the first winner to have played at the FCS level, as he began his career at Jackson State.

“I think Travis clinched the Heisman,” Sanders said after Colorado’s season finale win, before pausing and then starting up again. “Thank you God, for stopping me. Because I almost said something. I think Travis clinched the Heisman with his performance. I think he made a lot of people aware of how ignorant they was with the Thorpe. His performance today, what’d he have?

“Three touchdowns, 100 yards and an interception and two passes broken up. Should’ve had another pick. Hit him right in the darn chest. I’m not happy about that, but I’m happy with him. But it’s phenomenal.”

Heisman, football, fishing. Hunter can do it all. Now, it’s off to the bowl game for the Buffaloes.
