Travis Hunter makes case to win Heisman Trophy: ‘What else do you want me to do?’
Travis Hunter finally made his case for the Heisman Trophy after laying back for most of the season.
The Colorado two-way star is firmly in the race with Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty and QBs Cam Ward (Miami) and Dillon Gabriel (Oregon). But Hunter stands out at two positions and couldn’t comprehend why he was rated higher.
Considering his efficiency at wide receiver and defensive back, it’s hard to argue.
“Bro the crazy part is when people say I’m not top five at receiver, top five at DB, like bro, what are ya’ll watching,” Hunter said on 2Legendary with Shedeur Sanders. “Every game plan for the opposing team has to revolve around me bro … and they still don’t stop me. So like, c’mon bro. I’ve allowed no touchdowns this season … while I’ve been hurt … At receiver bro, ain’t nobody ever stop me. I went nine-for-nine last week. That’s a lot of targets bro.
“Catching every pass, I have one dropped ball on the season. I seal the game on offense, I seal the game on defense. What else do you want me to do? Want me to throw a touchdown pass … the only thing I could do that I want to do is catch a pick six.”
This season, Hunter has 60 catches for 757 yards, eight touchdowns and 12.6 yards per catch. On defense, he has 20 tackles, seven pass deflections, two interceptions and one forced fumble.

During Colorado’s bye week, Hunter appeared on College GameDay and made his case, as well as for his teammate Sanders.
“Really just to both of our names out there more, people hate on coach Prime,” Hunter said. “I just had to go out there and show them. Had to let them now. We can come on here and talk our stuff if we need to. But, I’m a very laid back and humble dude.”
Hunter explained why he didn’t make this case before until now. Enough’s enough with a few weeks left in the regular season.
“Sometimes they just don’t want people to talk or hear their voice,” Hunter said. “It’s just my time to start talking. I’ve been laid back for a minute … I’m still not going to talk crazy but God blessed me the talent and ability to do what I do so, I’m not trying to push it in people’s face because they don’t have it and can’t do what I do but at the same time, I don’t like people talking crazy about me.”
