Travis Hunter had an interesting response to the Texas Tech fans throwing tortillas on the field during Saturday’s game. As one tortilla landed in front of him before the first play of the game, he bent down to pick it up.
However, instead of tossing it to the sideline, he stuck the tortilla in his pants. Perhaps he wants something to remember his trip to Lubbock by, or maybe a midgame snack. You can view the moment below.
Red Raiders fans have been throwing tortillas on the field since the 1990s. It’s not clear how it started, but one legend says that fans first snuck in tortillas ahead of a 1992 game after an ESPN announcer said Lubbock had “nothing but Texas Tech football and a tortilla factory.”
Regardless of its origins, the tradition is beloved by students and one of the things that makes the college football experience unique. Clearly Hunter was having some fun with it as well.

Hunter enters the game against Texas Tech as a Heisman Trophy candidate who plays both cornerback and receiver. In the most recent game against Cincinnati, he recorded nine catches for a season-high 153 yards and two touchdowns.
Travis Hunter will look to carry over that performance into Saturday’s contest against the Red Raiders. A win could potentially move the Buffaloes to No. 2 in the Big 12 standings if Iowa State were to also lose to Kansas.
The Cyclones trail 31-13 at halftime, but Colorado is also behind in its game as Texas Tech holds a 13-7 lead with two minutes remaining in the second quarter.
