Deion Sanders confirms Tyler Brown will continue to train on both offense, defense
As Colorado makes a run toward a Big 12 title and College Football Playoff berth, Travis Hunter is the talk of the sport as a two-way standout. But the Buffaloes could have another player on both sides of the ball in Tyler Brown, and Deion Sanders said he’s been working on those skills this year.
Brown is one of Colorado’s interior linemen after taking a redshirt in 2023 upon his transfer from Jackson State. But, if necessary, Coach Prime said he could fill in on the defensive line based on his work in practice. In fact, he was available to play defense last time out against Texas Tech.
Sanders said the goal is to make Brown a part of the defensive line formation at some point. In the meantime, he continues to make an impact on offense protecting Shedeur Sanders – even while getting reps on defense in practice.
“He’s there if we need him, when we need him,” Sanders said. “Defensive line did a great job last week, and we didn’t need him, as expected. But the first guy goes down, he needs to go in that rotation. Once he develops and gets a little better, he’ll be in the rotation. He doesn’t have to wait for something bad to happen.

“The guy plays his butt off offensively. It’s amazing. I think one of his best offensive games was last week, and he spent time all week long playing both ways. I’m proud of him, 100%. I’m proud of that entire line. Keeping guys off Shedeur. You know the formula. We give him time to throw, we’ve got a great chance to win.”
Tyler Brown as an important part of the offensive line at Jackson State while Sanders was the coach. He was a Third Team FCS All-American selection by the AP as he started all 13 games. That came after three seasons at Louisiana-Lafayette, where he appeared in 11 games.
Colorado moved up to No. 17 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings following last week’s resounding 41-27 win over Texas Tech. That improved the Buffaloes to 7-2 overall on the year and 5-1 in Big 12 play, putting them in prime position for a run at the conference title game.
