Urban Meyer is making no bones about it, Deion Sanders at Colorado is already one of the best college football stories in a long, long time.

Joining Tim May for Urban’s Take, the former Ohio State leader elaborated on his thoughts regarding Sanders’ success, and how he’s completely changed the game in short order.

“We’re (FOX) the Coach Prime Network,” joked Meyer. “Went out, watched him practice. I’ve known him a long time. Everybody keeps, I hate to say this, because it’s real, when you’re playing well, people want to see you fail. I felt that, when I actually had to go to Chicago for the Big Ten Network after the game. I fell asleep, I woke up, I’m watching this game and I look at the score and they come back and win. So a team always gets measured by how you handle adversity. Not how you do when you’re going well. The next two coming up are huge.

“I mean, at Oregon is going to be a tough, tough game for them, and then USC, who is a College Football Playoff contender with a Heisman Trophy candidate, coming to Boulder. It’s fascinating. It’s one of the great stories in the last decade of college football.”

Continuing, Meyer believes the ramifications of Sanders’ success will lead to changes throughout college football, and he doesn’t see him slowing down anytime soon.

“It’s going to change the way athletic directors approach a new hire. It’s going to change the way coaches change teams,” added Meyer. “They simply remove people from their team. I’m not sure I’m a big fan of that, but I get it. Who doesn’t want to do that? The way he’s done it has been phenomenal. But here’s the thing, they’ve already handled adversity right in their face. When they played Colorado State, they were a two or three touchdown favorite. Their best player, Travis Hunter, got hurt. They were down scores, and Shedeur Sanders send them on a 98-yard drive to win the game. So far they’ve handled adversity.

“I talked to Deion the other day, and I just told him the best thing about — obviously he has good players, he has hired an excellent staff. I mean, the time and how he put that staff together, that’s an excellent staff, and it was one of the best college football practices I have ever seen when I was out there.”

The Deion Sanders train is rolling, and it seems like everyone is aboard. As he takes Colorado to face Oregon this weekend, Urban Meyer and the rest of the college football world will be fascinated to see how it turns out.
