NFL Hall of Famer and current Colorado assistant coach Warren Sapp is filing a $20 million suit against police after alleging a wrongful arrest last year in Okeechobee, Fla., according to a report from FOX Sports 640’s Andy Slater.

Details about the arrest were not immediately available, though Slater included a video that appeared to show police taking Sapp into custody.

You can view that video below.

Slater noted the state attorney dropped the charges against Sapp just days after the interaction, noting the actions of the police were not legal.

Warren Sapp is an NFL Hall of Famer, having spent 13 years in the league, mostly with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Sapp ended his career by spending his last four seasons with the Oakland Raiders.

During his playing days, Sapp won a Super Bowl with the Bucs. He was also named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1999, while making first-team All-Pro four times.

Sapp spent two seasons as a second-team All-Pro, while he reached the NFL Pro Bowl seven different times. He has been named to both the NFL 1990s and 2000s All-Decade Team.

Following his playing days, Warren Sapp has gotten into coaching. It’s something he didn’t necessarily envision, but something he said he really likes now that he’s doing it. He spent 2024 serving as a senior quality control assistant on Deion Sanders‘ staff at Colorado.

“For someone that never wanted to do this, I’m really addicted to this right now,” Sapp said during training camp. “The babies have really given me a purpose in life. I’m enjoying it.”

Colorado had a strong season under Sapp’s watchful eye. The Buffaloes went 9-4 overall and were in contention for a Big 12 title game appearance right up until the final weekend of the regular season.
