Dan Hurley's wife, Andrea, will have 'as big a say' as anyone in deciding on Lakers job, Seth Greenberg says
Any potential change in job comes with plenty to consider. For Dan Hurley, though, few factors will have as big of an impact on the latest regarding his career than his family, specifically his spouse.
Seth Greenberg discussed the news that Hurley is in consideration for the open job with the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. He first provided some general thoughts on the potential move from UConn to Hollywood, which would represent a significant loss for college basketball but would be a major opportunity for Hurley.
“If he takes a job, it’s a sad day,” said Greenberg on ‘First Take’. “But, for him, I think it would be an exciting challenge and the dude loves a challenge.”
However, no matter what other details emerge, Andrea Hurley, his wife and the mother of their two sons, will play a massive part in this process according to Greenberg. Hurley will go through this and make any potential decision with her at his side.
“Here’s the caveat in the whole thing: his wife will have as big a say in this thing is anyone. Andrea will have as big a say in this decision as anyone,” said Greenberg. “If they go out there and they look at this job? Alright, he’s not taking this job, unless they’re in it together because they do everything.”

“They are in it together – believe me,” Greenberg said.
Hurley’s name made a stunning appearance in the head coaching search for the Lakers on Thursday. Although others like JJ Redick had been under heavy consideration, no other names had truly popped up in the matter. That was until this huge development regarding the head coach of the Huskies.
This comes after what Hurley has done over the past two seasons at Connecticut. Over six years with the Huskies, he has posted a 141-58 (.709) record. During 2022 and 2023, that features a record of 68-11 (.861) with two conference titles in the Big East. Back-to-back national titles highlight it as the first consecutive champion in the sport in a decade and a half.
Hurley appeared set to remain in Storrs for the foreseeable future. Completely denying the opening at Kentucky reflected that thought earlier on this offseason. Still, the NBA is a whole other ball game, especially with a chance to coach the premier franchise in the association along with one of the game’s all-time greats in LeBron James.
Hurley himself has reportedly made it known that he is in talks with Los Angeles at this point. With that being the case, it’s just a matter of how those conversations go from here, including Mrs. Hurley’s role in them, to decide if he’ll be possibly jumping from college to the pros here soon.
