Jim Mora and UConn have agreed to a new contract for the Huskies head coach. The report came in early on Saturday from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

UConn is also reportedly paying more to its coach. Mora’s new deal will see him coach UConn through the 2028 season and will feature a pay raise to $2.5 million annually through the length of the deal.

Mora led the Huskies to an 8-4 record during the regular season. The news comes shortly before the Huskies took the field in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl vs. North Carolina. Heading into Saturday’s matchup, Mora holds a 17-20 overall record as head coach at UConn across three seasons at the position.

Mora’s offense has been a major contributor to their success this season. Boasting a three-headed backfield featuring Cam Edwards, Durell Robinson and Mel Brown, the trio have a combined 2,064 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns to their credit this season.

Taking over the program during the 2022 season, Mora’s impact was immediate. The Huskies finished 2021 at 1-11 overall, but in his first season at the helm, he led his program to a 6-7 record with an appearance in the Myrtle Beach Bowl. This season was dubbed the “Husky Revolution” as the program had not been to a bowl game since 2015.

A dissapointing 3-9 season ensued during 2023, but Mora turned the Huskies’ fortunes around in 2024 having won eight games during the regular season. That’s the most for a UConn team in a single season since 2010.

Despite a bumpy road last season, the words of AD David Benedict upoon Mora’s hiring right true.

“Jim is a proven winner, a man of integrity, and he possesses the experience and the energy to lead our football program back to success,” Benedict said. “Jim is excited and undaunted by this challenge, and we both know that this program has great potential. I’m certain that, under Coach Mora’s leadership, UConn football will once again realize that potential.”

A victory over the Tar Heels on Saturday would mean the first 9-win season in program history since 2007. They have never won 10 games at the Division I level — something Mora and company will look to accomplish in the coming years.

Kickoff between the Huskies and Tar Heels is set for 11 a.m. ET live from inside Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox.
