Report: Creighton extends Greg McDermott through 2027-28
Creighton head men’s basketball coach Greg McDermott was being mentioned as a potential candidate for several college basketball jobs around the country. However, it seems as though McDermott will be staying put in Omaha.
Creighton and Greg McDermott have agreed to a long-term contract extension, the school announced on Friday. No details on the deal were released, but it is through the 2027-28 season, according to multiple reports. McDermott’s deal was set to run out in 2025-26.
“We are pleased that Greg McDermott will be the head coach of our men’s basketball program for many years to come,” Creighton AD Marcus Blossom said in a statement. “This extension recognizes Greg’s exceptional achievements as our head coach and the positive impact he has had on the culture of Creighton men’s basketball.
“Greg is one of the best coaches in college basketball and his continued leadership puts our program in the best possible position to continue to recruit top talent and compete for championships.”
The Bluejays are having another excellent season under Greg McDermott and are currently 22-8 entering Saturday’s regular season finale at Villanova.
McDermott has been at Creighton since 2010. The Bluejays have won 20-plus games in 10 straight seasons.
“There is no place I would rather be for the rest of my career than Creighton,” McDermott said in a statement. “I am grateful to Father Hendrickson and Marcus Blossom for their ongoing confidence. My staff and I are fortunate to work with outstanding student-athletes and we will continue to create an environment that allows them to excel both on the court and in the classroom.
