Iowa transfer guard Josh Dix has committed to transfer to Creighton in a social media post Friday morning. Dix has one season of college eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-6 shooting guard chose Creighton over interest from Indiana, Illinois, and Kansas. He also spurning overtures from new Hawkeyes head coach Ben McCollum, who made an effort to keep Dix in Iowa City according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Dix committed to Creighton as the No. 7-ranked player in the transfer portal, according to On3’s Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Dix signed with Iowa as a three-star recruit in the Class of 2022 and has been one of the country’s deadliest sharpshooters this season. He was the Hawkeyes’ second-leading scorer in 2024-25, pouring in 14.4 points per game while shooting 51% from the field and 42% from behind the arc.

Dix has averaged 8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 22.1 minutes while starting 52 out of the 97 career games in his three seasons at Iowa. That included starting all 32 of the Hawkeyes’ games as a junior last season.

Dix’s decision to transfer came shortly after the Iowa administration announced the firing of longtime head coach Fran McCaffrey, who’d been in Iowa City for the past 15 seasons. Last month, On3 insider Jamie Shaw named Dix among his Top 5 players that could boost their NBA Draft stock in March.

“Watching Josh Dix play, you immediately notice the shooting and the positional size. Dix has shot 40.0 percent or more from three in each of his college seasons. More specifically, he has attempted 249 threes and is shooting 41.8 percent overall in his three seasons at Iowa,” Shaw wrote. “Despite not being able to find a consistent rhythm as a team, Dix has been able to show some interesting processing and passing chops in the half-court. Not the most explosive, but he is fluid and an average to solid athlete.

“He will need to continue adding weight, but his shooting stroke and ability to shoot from a standstill or off movement and make a read with the ball is very intriguing. In the 2025 calendar year, Dix numbers have increased to 14.4 points on 43.5 percent from three. With his season most likely coming to an end soon, the pre-draft process could be big for him.”
