WATCH: Dayton stuns No. 4 Kansas on wild buzzer-beater
Kansas had won its last 35 non-conference games against unranked opponents entering Saturday. That streak came to a stunning end as Dayton got a crazy roll on a buzzer-beater to win 74-73.
Dayton had the ball with 15.8 seconds left. Malachi Smith went for a layup with five seconds left, but David McCormack sent it back with a ferocious block. But Mustapha Amzil got the offensive board and got an amazing bounce on a shot from the free throw line to stun the No. 4 Jayhawks 74-73 at the ESPN Events Invitational on Friday.
You have to see this to believe it — and, of course, stay for the Dick Vitale call.
The basket was Amzil’s lone field goal of the day off the bench. The rebound was his third offensive board of the day and fifth total.
Dayton had five players score in double figures, led by 16 points on 6 of 9 shooting from Daron Holmes II. On the whole, the Flyers shot 51.8% from the floor and 27.8% from three-point territory.
For Kansas, Ochai Agbaji led all scorers with 21 points. The Jayhawks shot 50% from the field, but went 4-for-19 from downtown. They also went just 9-for-20 from the free throw line, which proved to be the difference in the game.

The victory was Dayton’s first over an AP Top-5 team since 1984 when the Flyers defeated No. 3 DePaul. Kansas had a 45-35 lead at halftime, but Dayton came all the way back to pull out the win — and pull off the upset.
Dayton was picked to be a middle-of-the-pack team in this year’s Atlantic 10 preseason poll, coming in at No. 5 out of 14 teams in the league. Kansas, meanwhile, was picked to win the Big 12 and received eight of 10 possible first-place votes in the preseason poll.
The Flyers now advance to the ESPN Events Invitational championship on Sunday where they’ll take on the winner of Iona vs. Belmont.
